Sea Kayak Beginners: Saturday 18 May

For those who haven't yet been on the sea, or would like to build skills and experience before signing up for one of the many club trips, I'm running a beginners-friendly sea paddle on Saturday 18 May.

The itinerary will depend on who signs up, and what you'd like to get out of the day. It can be anything from an introduction to sea paddling, rock hopping, skills coaching, or a gentle journey. The purpose of the day is to extend your experience beyond the canal, and to give the basic skills and confidence to join other trips.

The forecast is for a calm day, so a perfect introduction to the sea.

We'll meet at the club at 8:00, before travelling to Meadfoot for about 9:00. Aiming to launch 9:30. Parking is in the lay-bys along the beach. We'll launch from the beach below steps half-way along.

Bring lunch and paddling gear, including a helmet. Remember that although the air will be warm, the water is still cold. Kit information is available here:

  • Martin. Happy to support. If you need to limit places please prioritise your learners. Owen
  • I would like to come. I did my training last year and have been on a couple of day trips last year yet would be good to refresh

  • Hi Martin, yes please, I have space for 1 extra boat, will meet at the club, cheers
  • Thanks Owen, you’re welcome to join. Any help always welcome
  • Hi steve would you have space for a boat for me please?

  • Hi Martin - I have done the sea kayaking courses with the club over the last two years but only been on the sea twice. I lost a bit of confidence last year in large swell at Meadfoot so it would be most helpful if I could get back on the sea this year. This trip seems ideal for doing just that if possible but I would need a boat from the club taken for me as I don’t have any way to transport one. Is that possible at all? Thanks.
  • Hi Liz, welcome to the trip. It looks like I’ve still got a space on my car so I can take you and boat. It is currently looking very calm and not at all like that day last year
  • Thank you Martin - I’ll see you on Saturday at the club then and look forward to a good paddle 😉
  • Hi Ruth, yes of course, meet you at the club, cheers
  • Hi Martin and all, I'd be happy to join you but can't transport a boat for myself. If anyone has room for another one - yes please; if not no worries, I'll join a trip another time.

  • Hi Baa, I’ve added you, but we’ll need 1 more person with transport to manage your boat. Can I persuade anyone?
  • I have a spare kayak space on my roof and plenty of room in the car. Will see you at the club.
  • Thank you Owen - see you at the club:)
  • Hi we lost a hatch so are heading back to club we will ca4ch you up dont wait we will catch you up on the water
