Sunday 26 July Sea kayak trip Updated

I am happy to lead a SK trip on Sunday. Weather forecast looks good for people working towards SK award and above. Reply to say if you would like a trip and I'll work out something suitable. Updated: you need to be at SK award or above for this trip.

Update: weather forecast is now for stronger winds: F4/6 from the NW. Tide is going west all day, so broadly strong wind against tide. Coeff 48, so neapy.
Best bet is to go to Kingswear, then we can go out with the tide and turn West into the wind for a while as far as is reasonable. If the conditions are not pleasant we turn back and can take shelter in the estuary, using the West cliffs. There is often good rockhopping towards Combe Point.

Owen wants to be back home by 5pm absolute latest, so

Meet at the club at 7.30am, or Kingswear at the small slipway next to the Yacht club at 8.45am.

  • Count me in. My preference is Sunday but if you choose Saturday I may need to adjust another commitment on the Saturday.
  • I could probably make Sunday
  • I'll join please. Either day works. There's planned road resurfacing on Topsham Road on Sun, so hope I can still drive out then.

  • I will join too

  • Yes please
  • Maggie - shall we meet up at Widdon Down Village Hall at 07.40am and share transport

I will meet at the club…a bit unsure about gusting 6. If you think I am better skipping out of the trip please let me know!!!

  • Who else needs to pick a boat up from the club? I can carry one boat and one person but would prefer to avoid going into the quay.
  • Maggie has let me know that she can no longer come on the trip.
Nigel, if you were willing to come to the club then we could have 2 cars with 2 people in each.
Laura, don't worry about the F6. We will paddle where it is sensible and if the wind gets too strong then we turn round and paddle with the wind on the way home.

  • OK - I will meet you at the club

  • I've already got a boat and will travel solo. No need to come to the club for me Nigel, but not sure if you and Owen may want to meet somewhere en route to lift share?

I will still come in via the Club - maybe 3 of us can travel together and reduce parking costs.

  • I will travel direct. I may need to leave early if we get back to the river mouth before we finish.
  • Thanks all. A windy paddle back up the river but all packed up and heading for home by 1.30. I trust you had a good afternoon. Great morning.
  • Plus an ice cream
  • Great photos Nigel and thanks to everyone for a fun and educational paddle

  • Another lovely trip . Had my dose of oyster catchers.😁
