Exmouth - Straight Point Tide Race - Sunday 5 June 2016 afternoon?
Sorry this is a bit last minute. Does anybody fancy going to Straight Point tomorrow afternoon in sea kayaks to try out paddling in an easy tide race?
To join this trip, you should have paddled on the sea with the Club before, and be happy with a certain amount of swell. This is a friends trip, so you should be able to look after yourself.
The trip will involve leaving Orcombe Point, Exmouth at about 1.30pm. We will paddle west to Straight Point (about a of couple miles to the East) and put ashore at Sandy Bay amongst the hordes of tourists. We will then paddle another 500 metres or so to Straight Point. According to Mark Rainsley's SW Sea Kayaking guide, there is a small race develops on the ebb tide. From experience, this forms waves big enough to surf but not too scary. The maximum flow rate is at about 2-3pm. We can then use the tide to return to Exmouth.
If interested, we will meet at the McClains shed on the Quay at 12.30pm to share transport (it is likely to be busy in Exmouth).
