We're looking at running training for Paddlesport Instructor in the autumn.
What is it?
This is an entry level coaching course for paddlers who wish to learn how to coach others. It provides paddlers with the skills to coach introductory courses in any paddling discipline. Assessment is continuous through the course.
What will I learn?
* How to effectively prepare a group for an activity (e.g. kitting up and getting afloat);
* Together you will play with a range of activities to engage the group (e.g. games, tasks and journeys);
* You will explore a range of motivating activities and games that support learning;
* The tutors will support you to plan ways of using mini journeys to inspire adventure and exploration;
* You will develop ideas that allow you to help participants learn basic skills;
* Our tutors will share top tips and quick fixes for common challenges to accelerate learning;
* You will investigate how to select suitable equipment for participants;
* You will explore methods of maintaining participants’ safety and develop your understanding of deployment matters.
When will it be?
A series of Sundays between September and November. A mixture of professional coaching and club practice. Dates will be chosen to best suit participants and coaches.
Cost
TBD. Last year the course was heavily subsidised by the club for those that commit to coaching (or assisting in coaching) 5 sessions for Exeter Canoe Club within the next 18 months. Most club sessions are run by two coaches and we try to pair a new coach with a more experienced coach. I anticipate a similar arrangement this year.
Paddlers need to be members of British Canoeing.
If you would be interested in joining, please comment below. It would be helpful if you could indicate which Sundays in Sep, Oct & Nov you are free.

Comments
No, not at all.
This is about reserving space in diaries and booking a coach so that those who want to go beyond the Wednesday sessions can take the formal PSRT and PI courses later in the year.
Those thinking of doing Paddlesport Instructor would obviously benefit from attending the Wednesday leadership/coaching sessions to introduce many of the skills and knowledge (https://webcollect.org.uk/exetercc/event/leadership-and-coaching-skills for any that haven't spotted it yet).
I am interested in this. I am away the weekend of 23/9 and possibly from 21-29 Oct.
I don't need to do the course (as just did it) but if it isn't full up I'd love to join in as a refresher and pay towards it. Also, happy to help people practice anything in the lead up to it as trying to practice more SUP
Hi, I would like to do this course.
I can do all these dates, but prefer earlier as Oct/Nov I start training ten tors team so get busy
I'd like to do the course please. I can do any Sundays except 15th Oct, 29th Oct and 5th Nov.
Hi all, thanks for your dates. I propose the following:
10 Sep: PSRT
This is the prerequisite safety course for Paddlesport Instructor. Since it involves a lot of time in the water, it's worth completing as early in the season as possible. The only person who cannot make this date is Emma, who already has FSRT and hence doesn't require PSRT.
8 Oct and 15 Oct
The Paddlesport Instructor course. We need two consecutive weekends to run this course. 15 Oct is the only date when everyone is available, and more people can do 8 Oct than 22 Oct.
If these dates don't work for you, please post here. I can't promise to be able to change anything, but I am trying to get something that works for as many as possible.
I aim to book the coach on Tuesday morning so please make any comments before then.
Thanks
Will.
We are doing multi craft rescue practice on Wednesday 16th and 30th August. You're welcome to come along to one or both of the sessions.
For the Paddlesport Instructor course (PI) you will need to have filled in and paid for what is called a CR form. I think it is around £45.
You don't need it for the safety course just the PI.
Will.
As Will says, there is a form you will need to do. However you cannot do it until you have completed PSRT, so hold fire for the moment.
I have joining instructions for both courses that I’ll be sending out in the next few days. This, and other things, is covered there.

OK I am withdrawing from this as have already done it and have just signed up to core coach so need to conserve my childcare hours!
